Flower Hair Stick

Blacksmiths have been making hair sticks for centuries. So, I thought I would put forward my version with a flower hair stick.

This flower hair stick features a textured surface on the petals. I wanted to create something more organic in appearance instead of clean lines. The petals also have tempering colors to give shades of blue, purple, and even bronze when the light reflects off it. While I’m a fan of the traditional blackened look of blacksmith forged items, I wanted these to have a touch of fun to them.

The stem of the flower is also textured for visual interest and to continue lending to that natural look. Attached with a rivet, the stem and flower itself are joined as one piece. Riveting is a type of traditional joinery, something I feature in all my work that requires joinery, and it also serves as a focal point for the center of the flower. This type of joinery means the flower sticks will never come apart.

As for the flower itself, I wanted to create something simple that’s not any particular type of flower. What you see is something I imagined. While these no doubt bear resemblance to flowers in nature, it was not my intent to mimic any one flower.

A floor polish is applied to the flower hair stick to give a protective coating and to smoothen the surface for ease of use. Also, the ends of the hair sticks have a slight taper to help get them into your hair easily.

The flower end measures approximately 1.5″ in width. Measuring 1/4″ in diameter, the stem comes in a variable length so you can get a length that suits your needs. This means the 6″ length you buy has a total length of around 7.5″ with 6″ being the stem that you’ll use. It also means the overall length of the 7″ is 8.5″ and the 8″ is 9.5″.

As always with my work, this is hand-forged from solid steel. This ensures you’re getting a quality product that’s going to last forever.
