I wrapped up my first every firewood stand. I’ve been wanting to make one for years now. Like so many things I’d love to do I just need someone to commission me for one and I finally got that chance.
The goal was something simple and clean. Sheetmetal was used on the bottom to capture the little pieces of wood and bark that always makes a mess. Also, the client didn’t want scroll work, or anything overly elaborate, so we settled on flattening the tips and giving it a bit of a curl. The feet match the top, though you can’t really see them.
I’m a huge fan of traditional joinery so the supports were joined with tenons to the frame and rivets were used for the sheetmetal. Traditional blacksmith joinery just adds a rustic charm that I love.
Lastly, they wanted the firewood stand to be painted a dark bronze.
I’m really happy with how this came out. It’s a heavy piece at 42lbs but much lighter than many other firewood stands I’ve seen.
If you’re interested in having something custom made, then definitely reach out to me. You can also see other commission work I’ve done in my portfolio.
