Rustic Barn Door Handle

Here is my take on a Colonial style rustic barn door handle. It’s perfect for a barn door (of course!), a cabinet, sliding doors in your home, or anywhere you need a strong, solid handle.

The handle is exceptionally strong. It’s forged from 1/4″ thick by 3/4″ wide mild steel. I have a few of these I use for my own home. The one that sees the most use is a sliding door on my wood shed. The door weighs around 100lbs and I’ve had that attached for years now. It’s still secured and doing it’s just like the first day I put it there.

A rustic barn door handle will fit in with any decor. It’s a simple design with clean lines that blends in with any style. The blackened metal gives that rustic charm that’s synonymous with blacksmithing and hand-forged items. I have yet to see a factory match the look and feel of a hand-forged product.

The handle measures approximately 7″ in length. The nature of hand-forged is things are never exactly the same and so that 7″ length may vary a little. I do my best to hit it on the mark though!

Note: This is for a single handle, not a pair. Just toss two in your cart for a set!

A paste wax is applied to the handle and will help prevent rust and corrosion but it will rust if exposed to water and moisture. You can spray over the wax with an acrylic sealer that you can buy at any hardware store to give it protection from outdoor elements. That sealer won’t hold up forever though and will need to be reapplied. I personally like the look of metal as it ages with time and weather but I realize not everyone does.

Matching screws are included. You can choose the length of the screws you need. I use 3/4″ screws on the 100lb door I have my barn door handle attached to and it’s held that handle in place for years. You don’t need long screws for a secure hold; just a good solid piece of wood to screw into.
